Chapter 10
Kelsey
“Oh, for fuck’s sake.” Kelsey groaned and turned to glare at her cell phone. When she recognized Darren’s number on the screen, she bit her lip, then picked up the phone and silenced it. For a moment, she wondered if it was an indication of how the entire day would be. She hated to dwell on anything negative, especially after her amazing night with Dre.
Lovely Dre, who had slept curled up against her all night, cradling her body and muttering with indignation when Kelsey had slipped out of bed to use the bathroom a little after three o’clock in the morning.
“Is everything okay?” Dre asked, her voice thick with sleep. Her brown hair was rumpled and she looked so sexy, Kelsey wanted to snuggle back down against her. If it had been a gloomy, rainy day, she might have done just that.
She took a deep breath. If she was going to do this relationship right, she would have to be completely honest with Dre. “It is yeah. That was Darren calling. I let it go to voicemail instead of answering.”
“You didn’t have to.” Dre had scooted upright and was leaning back against the headboard, the blankets up around her chest, her hair falling around her shoulders.
“No, I did, because it’s over and I’m not playing games with him.” Kelsey shook her head and turned to Dre. She lay her hand alongside the other woman’s face, enjoying the feel of Dre’s strong, hard jaw against her palm. “I’ve let go and moved on. He can’t wait around expecting me to change for him. For once, I’m going to be me. Life’s too short to spend waiting and hoping the wrong person will eventually come around to your way of thinking, you know? I’d rather move forward with the right person, the one who understands who I am.”
With a nod, Dre pressed a kiss into Kelsey’s palm. The contact made Kelsey shiver and she scooted closer to Dre, until they were embracing. This was going to be a good day, she decided. She wouldn’t let a phone call change that. The sun was shining and she felt giddy about having this amazing person in her bed.
“Thank you for telling me,” Dre said. “I’m sure you have loose ends to tie up with him, though, so do what you need to do, okay?”
Kelsey nodded and said, “I will and I’ll let you know whatever that is.”
“Thanks.” As soon as Dre spoke, a gurgle sounded from her stomach. “Food,” she groaned.
“I agree.” Kelsey’s eyes went back to the phone and she said, “Holy shit, I don’t know about you, but I forgot its Labor Day weekend. Where did the time go? When did it get to be September?”
“Does that mean you get Monday off for the holiday?”
Kelsey heard the hopeful note in Dre’s voice and nodded. “Yeah, I do. Oh, I have the best idea!” Uncaring that she was still naked, she moved so she could straddle Dre’s legs and said, “Why don’t
